What a day @ the Club. This rugby Super Saturday kicked off in the morning with when, thanks to Air New Zealand, 3 of the All Blacks World Cup squad came to the Rectory Field. Ben Franks, TJ Perenara and Jerome Kaino spent an hour hanging out with around 100 Blackheath Minis and Juniors, their parents and a few social players from the men’s section, chatting to the kids, signing balls & photos and so on.
It all culminated in a huge team photo with the players and the kids, followed by Ben Franks presenting a signed All Blacks jersey as a very much appreciated thank you for hosting them. The faces on the minis and junior players (and also the adults) told a story of very happy members.
Then we had another great home win for the boys in the 1st XV, beating our visitors Darlington MP (see Grahams match report on the home page) and after that it was on to another huge World Cup evening. As well as a not insignificant Club presence at Twickenham itself, the noticeable thing was the 2nd week in a row when another great World Cup night got underway in the Clubhouse at Well Hall. Club Captain Markus Burcham, along with some of the of victorious first teamers came back to Well Hall after their victory and settled down to watch the England v Wales match, along with the Women’s Section, the Blackheath Bandits and Club Juniors to have another fantastic night at Well Hall.
Much beer was drunk and the lovely Bar Food from Scrum Club Catering was very appreciated by the members. Although the England v Wales result was not to that many peoples liking a good Club night was still had by all and we hope as many of you as possible will come down to your Clubhouse to cheer on England next Saturday in the do or die match against Australia.
