A Huge Thanks to our Volunteers

IMG_6864Last Saturday was one of those days that everyone present labelled a good ‘Club’ day.  It all got underway when 50-60 Club members and their friends, and a few of our friends from Askeans gathered at Well Hall to watch the 1st Lions Test.  A superb breakfast was on offer from Club Grub at great value prices and the bar was open to help wash the food down and lubricate the vocal chords as we cheered on the Lions.

Although the team came up short against a superb All Blacks side, the game was a great one and everyone had a good time (especially the sole Kiwi in the bar)!

Some members had to leave after the game, with family commitments and Saturday shopping to be done, but 20 or so volunteers stayed on to get stuck into the much needed work around the grounds.  The work included washing the seats in the stands, painting walls, storage units, railings and bleachers, installing a new TV and cabling in the Greene King bar and hanging the lovely new black and red bunting to decorate the walls.

After the hours of hard graft one by one the volunteers retired back to the bar to quench their thirst.  We hope to organise another day of volunteering to help Albert and the Well Hall staff prepare the ground for next season and details will follow in due course.

These dedicated volunteers included Mark Fiander and Keith Oliver, who have been Chair and Vice Chair of the Supporters Club for a couple of years now but have both now stepped down, but both remain active members.  The Club would like to thank them for all their efforts in growing and making the Supporters Club a tremendous success and to welcome Pamela Kilmister and Richard Clark, two more long standing members who have taken on the Cahir and Vice Chair roles in the Supporters Club.

This coming Saturday there’s no big volunteering push but there is the 2nd Lions Test, and the Clubhouse will be open from 8am so you can watch the game.  As well Members and their friends, we are also expecting a number of the 1st XV who will watch the game before their 1st pre-season training session.  It was a great atmosphere last Saturday and we are looking forward to seeing many of you here this weekend.
