Academy Update

Posted by

The Academy is embarking upon an exciting “phase 2″ of its journey this year as we look to manage both the Academic and Rugby elements of the course moving forward. The Academy began four years ago now and at that time we had absolutely no idea who our tutor would be or whether our player coaches would be capable of delivering the coaching aspect of the programme.

So with the changes to our Academic partnership and the decision to move on by our previous coaches, we find ourselves now selecting our own Academy tutor and recruiting a new coaching team with a broader range of experience mix, coaching skills and RFU qualifications. All this with Four years of experience behind us and a wealth of Academic and Rugby support now surrounding our Blackheath Rugby Academy.

By way of a brief update, the closing date has now passed for applications for the position of tutor and I am delighted to inform you all that we have had an incredible response to our website post and industry advert. As you would expect we are now busy meeting and interviewing the suitable candidates and will have an announcement very shortly, we anticipate.

On the Coaching front with the team led by Larry Measures, which has now been joined by Richard Garrett who brings valuable Rugby coaching experience in his continuing role with the RFU as a Level 3 coach and we are delighted that he has joined us. We are now in the final stages with several other current and ex player/ coaches for the final position as part of the Blackheath Rugby Academy and again an announcement will follow shortly.
