A party of 25 U9’s and supporting parents and siblings from Thanet Wanderers arrived at Rectory Field on Saturday. Training as a joint squad with the Blackheath U9’s was followed by 2 exhibition games on the 1st XV pitch in front a large and vociferous home crowd. Honours were shared, with Blackheath winning the Development Game (1-0) and Wanderers winning the Senior squad game (2-1). The quality of play from both games was exemplary, especially considering that the players are in their first year of contact rugby.
Following the half time game Thanet were rewarded with a squad photo with the William Webb Ellis Cup (see attached)
Land Rover, a principal squad of the World Cup, were sufficiently impressed with the welcome that the Cup was given at Blackheath , to give Blackheath Rugby 20 tickets to the Ireland v Canada game in Cardiff on the second day of the World Cup. Blackheath has generously agreed to share the ticket allocation with Wanderers so both sets of U9’s continue their World Cup journey with a long away day to Cardiff this coming Saturday.
