Blackheath v Plymouth Albion – Team News

Posted by

Tomorrow Blackheath welcome Plymouth Albion to Well Hall. Kick off is at 3 pm.

Albion had an indifferent first half of the season, winning six and drawing two of their 16 matches prior to the Christmas break, although one of their wins was a notable 31-30 victory against Richmond at The Athletic Ground in November.

Nevertheless, with the arrival of James Scaysbrook as Head Coach at the turn of the year, the Devonians have looked a different side, winning their first four matches on the bounce, including putting a half-century of points on hapless Canterbury at Merton Lane, and nearly the same number on Rosslyn Park as they ran out 41-22 victors at Brickfields.

Last Saturday saw them lose for the first time in 2020, by the slenderest of margins, 26-25, as they made the difficult trip to Sale FC, missed kicks costing them dear, but the two league points were enough to keep them in the top half of the league table in eighth.

Blackheath’s fine win at Rams last week, following on from home victories over Rosslyn Park and Sale FC, keeps them in fifth place In National League One, but they’ll clearly need to remain at full pelt if they’re to make it four on the bounce against a firing Albion.

Tom Williams scored what turned out to be the winning try in the Club’s 26-19 win at Brickfields in October, the tight-head receiving the most nonchalant off-load from Danny Herriott.

Tomorrow, Tom makes his 50th appearance in Blackheath colours and lines up in the front-row with Danny, and at hooker Nathan Morris making his home debut.

Tom Stradwick misses out after damaging his ankle in last week’s 31-18 win at Old Bath Road, so Tom Baldwin steps into the blind-side berth, with Josh Poole added to the bench.

Otherwise, the side is unchanged.

Throughout the day Clayton, our favourite singer, will be providing pre and post match music and at the conclusion of tomorrow’s main event, the Greene King Bar will be showing the Calcutta Cup match live from Murrayfield. Kick off is at 4.45 pm.
