Lets Get Through This Together
May I take this opportunity to say to ALL of our Club Members, especially those who are self-isolating, that our thoughts are with you and we hope that you and your families remain safe and well at this time.
It has been a week since we posted our previous message to Members, Friends and Supporters for much needed support to help keep the Club pushing on during this time of crisis.
As we are all aware many sole traders and small businesses are facing the most difficult of challenges during this time and Blackheath Rugby Club is NO different. With NO Rugby for the remainder of the season and NO possibility of any social events utilising Well Hall facilities the Club simply has ZERO income other than that from its generous sponsors, fabulous Members and loyal supporters.
Some of the details of how the COVID-19 crisis is impacting the Club were explained in last week’s email appeal and here on the website. Over the past week we have been truly touched by the responses from people all across the club and how they have rallied to help in whatever way they can.
Over the past week we have seen a growing number sign up for their 2020/21 Membership. We have received phone calls from Members asking to apply credit on to their accounts ready to spend when the bars and shops at Well Hall eventually re open for next season. Plus there have been a number who have simply made generous and very well received donations.
The number of generous donations, particularly at this time, has helped us get through this unprecedented emergency these past two weeks and with the sudden cessation of our Rugby business we would not have made it through this period without them.
Thank You to all of you!
Looking ahead, it is hoped that as the growing number of 2020/21 Membership renewals and the requests for credit on these accounts increases it will see us able to continue with our proposed extensive maintenance programme at both Well Hall and Hervey Road.
In fact this year was due to see not only Pitch 1 returned to its (always) tremendous high standards but Pitch 3 get its first ever “major” overhaul with new posts, major surface upgrade and improved drainage.
The planned work also included floodlight upgrades and much needed work to our 3G pitch plus extensive works at Hervey Road in our second cricket season there. But none of this can go ahead without the appropriate levels of funds available.
Whilst we are in ‘lockdown’ the Club is still working with a skeleton team who are at all times maintaining safe distances and strict hygiene as per government guidelines.
As well as the planned extended works this team are carrying out the day to day activities such as:
- General facility deep cleaning
- Essential maintenance to be undertaken
- Cellars and beer lines need to be emptied and deep cleaned
- Areas around pitches to be repaired, restored and grass cut twice a week as we enter the peak growing season all in preparation for the next season (when it finally comes)
- There is painting to be done of the main Hall & Bar
- Cleaning of the burger bar and kitchens
- Tree maintenance
- Plus much more
This is all necessary work as we prepare to welcome Mini, Junior and Senior Rugby back across our sites but without funds it simply all comes to a grinding STOP.
But YOU can help us keep things going and this is how simple it is:
- Sign up for your Early Bird Membership, which can be done via the website here
- Put credit for you to spend at the bars at Well Hall and Hervey Road, which can be done by emailing Tim Brindle here.
- Donating, either by BACs payment by contacting Russell Ticehurst or with a card payment via Tim
As you can see from RFU announcements and other clubs around us and Nationally we are NOT alone but we cannot rely on anyone else caring as much about our club as we do so we are asking OUR MEMBERS AND SUPPORTERS to help us continue to keep going!
Lastly and with more and more shopping being forced online by this COVID-19 pandemic, every online purchase you make can raise extra money to help the Club without costing you any additional money.
Whether you use Ocado, Tesco, Sainsburys or Waitrose for your online grocery shopping, if you go to their website via EasyFundraising, the retailer will make a donation for every purchase you make. Its unbelievably easy to do- just go to the EasyFundraising website here, select Blackheath Rugby as your cause and you’re away. It also covers Amazon, John Lewis and many others.
These are challenging and uncertain times and they are impacting on all of us in every aspect of our lives.
Our goal at the Club is to support each other and hope to see the Club get through this crisis and it can if we all pull together the Club will pull through.
