We are sorry to report the deaths of Don Shaw and David Webster



Don Shaw passed away on 23rd December 2018. He was educated at Manchester Grammar School and, after National Service in the RAF, he joined the Civil Service. He was posted to London and played his rugby for the YMCA Club. On moving to Blackheath, he became a member of Blackheath FC. Later he was a committee member, a match day manager and a hardworking volunteer over many years.

He was made a Vice President of Blackheath FC in recognition of his outstanding contribution.

His funeral will take place on Monday 111th February 2019 at 1045 at Eltham Crematorium, Crown Woods Way, SE9 2AZ

David Webster, ex-Blackheath 1st XV Captain, died on 7th January 2019 in the USA.

Born and bred a Lancastrian, David Webster was educated at Arnold School, Blackpool and Cambridge University. He played rugby for the university and the LX Club and, although he didn’t win a blue, he was a member of The Hawks Club.

On coming to London, he joined Richmond FC Before he came to the Rectory Field to play for The Club. He was a regular 1st XV player and a great tourist on and off the field to Ireland, the USA and Berlin.

David joined the Club from Richmond in the 60’s, followed by his two brothers Bill and Fred, he usually played at fly half sometimes in the centre. He had a good rugby brain and was appointed captain of the Club for the season 1968-69. Unfortunately, David he suffered a nasty knee injury mid-season during his captaincy and did not play for the rest of the season. Peter Bell, his vice-captain, took over the role of captain.

His day job was with ICI Fibres and, after working in London he moved to Brussels and later to Canada where he headed their operation.
