With Hayden King heading for Bedford Blues and Kieron Scutt bound for Old Elthamian, James Shanahan has looked to re-equip the Blackheath front-row with two key signings.
Tom Williams arrives from Rotherham Titans having made no less than thirty-nine Championship appearances for the Yorkshire side over the last two seasons.
The loose-head prop, who stands at 6ft tall and weighs in at 18st 7lbs, started his rugby career with home town club Kettering, before moving on to Rugby Lions, Leicester Lions (where he also spent some time as forwards coach), subsequently graduating to the Championship, initially for Bedford Blues in 2014, prior to his move to Clifton Lane.
He now joins Blackheath where he will combine playing with the role of specialist scrum coach.
‘With around a hundred Championship appearances to his name, Tom brings a wealth of playing experience, and his time with Leicester Lions coaching their pack will prove invaluable,’ said Shanahan.
‘Having someone with his abilities will be huge for the Club.’
On the other side of the front-row, Blackheath will also be looking forward to welcoming Phil Ackauku to their ranks.
At the outset of his rugby career, Phil is a product of Moulton College and Coventry’s Development Academy squad, and spent last season playing in National League Two with Broadstreet.
