Gary Munday: RIP

Posted by

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Munday, a former Club player.

Gary joined Blackheath from Old Brockleians where he started his rugby playing days, having lived literally a stone’s throw from the Old Brocks ground in Eltham.

He was a talented sportsman who played off single figures in golf and he very quickly took to the oval ball game where his kicking ability soon became evident. Following his debut in 1981, he played many times for the Club 1st XV and he never let the side down. A skilled and prodigious kicker off the tee and out of hand he certainly gained many plaudits from the forwards and one of the most mentioned memories is of how he steered Club to victory over Swansea, with the Welsh International Darcy playing opposite him at 10.

He is remembered as a talented, kind and generous young man who helped many, and was always first in the bar to buy a round and discuss the game. A larger than life character who loved being around his friends and loved the Club.
All of ours and the Clubs best wishes to Gary family at this sad time
