Juniors & Minis Representing Club Well

Posted by

Last weekend was a good weekend for the Club.

On Friday night the U16s played an end of season Friendly against Tonbridge Juddians.  After a cracking game (which TJs won) both teams retired to the Clubhouse for the players to gorge on pizza whilst parents & coaches were enjoying a few beers whilst reminiscing on the season past.

The Saturday was obviously focused on the 1st XV home game against former Championship side Rotherham Titans, and a crowd of almost 700 watched Clubs bonus point victory. The scoreboard operator and ball boys were, as usual, all players in our Junior age groups and the Minis supplied the match mascots.

In the evening we had a private booking in the Hall upstairs in the Clubhouse, celebrating a 70th Birthday party and keeping the guests thirst quenched working behind the bar was a Bandits Front Row.

Meanwhile out in Portugal the U17s and U15s were on Tour and, as well the superb results for both teams on the pitch, feedback from players and coaches alike is that it was the best tour they’d been on, whether adult or youth!

The U17s made it through to the knock out stages, going on to win the 3rd/ 4th play off, playing along the way Stockholm Exiles, São Miguel, Académica, Cascais and Belenenses.

The U15’s made it all the way to the final, beating Jaguares, CSCE Luxembourg, Worcester RFC, USA Schools, Ivybridge College along the way.  In the final, which was live streamed online, Blackheath U15s were cheered on by the U17s in front of a crowd of around 4,000 and scored in the last play to win 5-0.

This all sets up well for the season finale on the 27th when we host Esher at Well Hall, followed by the end of season dinner – the marquee for which is being built now.

Bom Dia , Many congratulations to both the under 15s and under 17s sides on their success in Lisbon. As a Country Member living just south of Lisbon ( as I believe , shown in the list of CMs) had I known that the Club had teams in Lisbon I might well have been able to get along to watch and give a little vocal support. I cannot remember seeing any news that these teams would be here. Maybe next time.
Happy Easter 2 U all. Mike Stokes (CM)
