Scrum-half Stef Liebenberg has joined Blackheath for the 2018-19 season.
A familiar name to all followers of National League One rugby, Stef’s most recent appearances have been in Ampthill colours, for whom he played 21 league games during the last campaign, including the Bedfordshire side’s narrow 16-15 defeat at Well Hall in September.
South African born, he moved to the UK in 2006 with English wife Melanie, initially joining Bury St Edmunds , but spending a total of six years at Cambridge, in two separate stints sandwiching a couple of seasons with Old Albanian and one in the Championship with Bedford Blues.
He has also toured Uganda and Kenya with England Counties.
‘I’ve always wanted to play for one of the more illustrious club names at some point in my career,’ said Stef who is pictured above playing for Cambridge at Well Hall in October 2016.
‘Blackheath gives me that opportunity as well as the chance to continue playing in National League One.’
Stef and all of the First XV squad have been working hard in the hot dry weather for the last month in training but now take a short break before re-convening in advance of the first pre-season fixture at Richmond on the evening of Friday 10th August.
That game is followed by home matches against Ealing Trailfinders on Saturday 18th and Tonbridge Juddian on Friday 24th, before the new season commences at Esher on Saturday 1st September.
