The Club U18’s finally got to play their postponed quarter final match v Beccehamians on Pitch 1 this Sunday, which considering the recent volume of rain, was in fantastic condition and thanks must go to Frank our groundsman.
Whilst the strong wind was helping to dry the surface even more it was always going to mean that this would be a deciding factor and so it proved with Club going in 21-5 up at half time with the wind at their backs but the coaches were uneasy and hadn’t seen enough quality in that first half to suggest three tries would be enough.
The visitors were on the scoreboard quickly in the second half with some uncharacteristically poor missed tackling leading to the score line closing to 21-19 for the final ten minutes. Club did get over the opposition line on two more occasions but the referee did well to spot a forward pass for one and a knock on at the bottom of a catch and drive with another.
The home side we’re pressing hard and eventually the first of two yellow cards were awarded for constant infringements and ultimately the second for repeated offences in the red zone.
It was a huge relief to all Club supporters and coaches when the final whistle eventually went and the U18’s now look forward to a Semi Final in a couple of weeks time.
Good luck to Beccehamians for the rest of the season.
