As was recently reported to Members in one of their email updates, work is well underway at Hervey Road. Once work is complete we will also be operating it on behalf of the council as a community sports facility, and it will provide additional room for our growing youth section.
Since then the foundation work for the new club house and changing room block was completed and this week the modular sections of the building were brought in and assembled on site. It’s great to see the progress as there are now very visible signs that we are getting closer to being able to expand our delivery of sport for our community. Already we know that there will be cricket, football and netball there as well as rugby, and we already a lot of interest from local schools to use as much needed outdoor space for their PE lessons.
One of the first things that will happen at Hervey Road is the tag rugby coaching that we deliver every summer as part of our partnership with Charlton Triangle Homes, and there is the potential of the even more of the outdoor element of their Summer Programme taking place there in time.
Next week work begins on the outdoor space as improvements will be made to the surfaces and drainage of parts of the playing field, including the preparation and installation of a cricket square.
