The long hot summer continues, but the Blackheath squad are back in training after a short break, and a pre-season programme of three matches begins at Richmond on Friday night.

Head Coach James Shanahan has been busy over the close season, recruiting players to ensure the Club remain competitive when the new National League One campaign gets under way and all the newcomers will be involved in Blackheath’s fine tuning before the first competitive match at Esher on 1st September.

In the front-row, Tom Williams joins from Rotherham, Phil Ackuaku is a promising product of Coventry academy and Jake Buckingham returns to Well Hall after three years at Bath University, while at lock, former Northampton Saint Josh Peters is a new signing.

Stef Liebenberg will add valuable experience at scrum-half, backed up by Jack Daly and Jake Spivey, while in the back division the arrival of Elliot Clements-Hill after two successful seasons with Bedford Blues, in addition to Craig Dowsett and Nick Foster from Old Albanian, will add serious competition to places in the three-quarter line.

Kick-off at The Athletic Ground on Friday is at 7.30 pm, and entry £5, but free on production of Blackheath membership card (2017/18 is acceptable).  Entry for U16 is free.

On Saturday 18th August, Blackheath will face Championship opposition again as Ealing Trailfinders find their way to Well Hall (kick-off 3.00 pm), followed by the visit of Kent rivals Tonbridge Juddian on the evening of Friday 24th (7.30 pm).

Entry for the matches at Well Hall is free of charge.
