Blackheath Rugby Supporters’ Club – Aims and Objectives
The Supporters’ Club (SC) was formed in November 2014 at the instigation of Colin Cook. His aim was to get together with other members to enhance the social side of being a supporter outside of match days, and to provide a way for volunteers to offer their time and skills to help the Club where needed. Mark Fiander became Chair (with Keith Oliver as his deputy) in the following autumn, and I took over as Chair in June 2017.
The SC has regular monthly meetings at Well Hall on the third Tuesday of the month at 7pm, with the minutes going to over 300 members. All are welcome at the SC meetings – you simply need to be a Member of the Club to join: there is no charge. Contact me on the email address, below, for more details of the meetings, or if you would simply like to be added to the distribution list for the minutes.
Volunteers are essential to the success and sustainability of all rugby clubs, and Blackheath Rugby is no exception. Unlike the Supporters’ Club meetings, there is no prerequisite of being a Member of Blackheath Rugby if you’d like to join in and volunteer your time: if you are interested in supporting the Club outside of match days, simply send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org). You may have specific skills that you think would be useful, or you may not be sure of what you can do to help – either way, we would love to hear from you. We provide volunteers each week at Well Hall to help with tasks as requested by the Exec, Albert Patrick (General Manager) and Tim Brindle (Operations Manager), and we arrange Volunteer Days throughout the year: there is something to fit everyone’s skillset and availability. We also help to organise social events at the club, and have a regular table at all 1st XV pre-match lunches.
I look forward to seeing all supporters at Well Hall for the home matches and, of course, welcoming new SC members now the 2018/19 season is upon us. Feel free to come to a meeting, email me to find out how you can help the Club, or just join us for a drink at one of the home matches!
