William Cottrell, Blackheath’s Chairman’s nephew, is a lifelong Club supporter and is at most home games cheering on the 1st XV. He is delighted to have been chosen to represent Great Britain at golf in the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games which will be held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in March.
This follows a gold medal winning performance at the Special Olympics Great Britain National Games which were held in Sheffield in August 2017.
William will be one of 7,000 athletes from 170 nations competing in one of 24 sports at the World Summer Games. The tournament will be held at the world renowned Yas Links in temperatures of 28oC+.
This is not the first time William has represented Great Britain – in 2009 he represented GB in the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Idaho, USA where he won a bronze medal in the slalom.
William is very excited and said, ‘It is an honour to be selected for my Country and get the chance to meet competitors and make friends from all over the World.’
