Welcome to Blackheath U7s!
Our aim for the U7s is to give every member of the squad the opportunity to improve their skills through active game time and training and to develop their own sense of team spirit and associated social skills.
In 2014/15, the then U6’s enjoyed their first season with 44 children – boys and girls – some of which were trying rugby and indeed organised sport for the first time. We are incredibly excited about the season ahead and we aim to increase the numbers of children and coaches. This will help ensure every child and parent gets the opportunity to take part in fun festivals and weekly training working on the core values and skills of rugby such as passing, running and catching.
This season will be our first venture into Festivals and Fixtures against other clubs, giving all the children an opportunity to play real TAG rugby games without the added pressure of ‘streaming’. Each of the teams we will enter will be unstreamed meaning the children get every opportunity to play no matter what their early ability as it is widely recognised the
children will improve and progress at different rates.
As U7s coaches our aims are to allow the children to improve on the skills they have at their pace whilst still enjoying the team spirit and togetherness of belonging to the rugby club.
For many of our coaches, Rugby is a sport they’ve played and been associated with for many years. We believe in fun coaching rugby skills and help build their confidence, their teamwork and their determination. As a sport, Rugby promotes ideals which we think each of us would be happy to instill in ourselves and our children.
As a team we are lucky to have 13 coaches who play an active part in coaching of which 3 are first aid trained. If you are interested in helping in the training sessions please let us know. Each of our coaches are required to undertake a beginners course to rugby coaching “Rugby Ready” as well as the RFU “Safeguarding” course.
