Blackheath’s final league fixture of 2019 sees them host Kent rivals Canterbury at Well Hall. Kick off tomorrow is at 3 pm.
This is Canterbury’s first ever season at Level Three and they’ve found the going tough.
Thirteen straight defeats at the start of the campaign has left them rooted to the bottom of National League One but, at last, on 7th December they surprised everyone with a 19-17 win against in-form Cinderford.
Sadly, a last-ditch penalty denied them a follow up win at Rotherham last Saturday, but it’s worth remembering they nearly stole victory with two late tries against Blackheath when the two sides met at Merton Lane in September. The final score 34-33 to the visitors.
Consecutive defeats to Darlington Mowden Park and, last week, against near rivals Old Elthamians have dropped Blackheath from 4th to 6th in the table, but it remains so tight at the top of the league that a run of good results would put the Club right back in contention.
Harry Fry starts at hooker, and Henry Staff comes in at outside-centre. Mike Perks and Alex Pickersgill move to the bench where they are joined by a returning Danny Herriott, Freddie Owen and Nick Foster.
Otherwise, it’s the same line-up as against Old Elthamian last week.
Blackheath team to play Canterbury. Kick off is at 3 pm.
