Blackheath Rugby would like to welcome Archie Smeaton, Ed Scragg, Luke Pollock to the Club.
Archie, who’s previous club was Doncaster Knights, says he can’t wait to start “I’m excited to be joining Blackheath, it’s a successful club with an amazing history. I can’t wait to get started and see what we can achieve next season.”. Tom Stradwick is equally enthusiastic “We are delighted to have Archie on board this year. He has had a great season with Doncaster, popping up in the Championship Team of the Week. Archie is an exceptional ball carrier and I look forward to seeing him cause opposition players issues with his Power and physicality this season.”
Telling us about Ed, who joins us from Scarletts, Blackheath Rugby’s Head Coach Tom Stradwick says “Ed a strong lineout operator and, having been full time with the Scarlett’s, he will no doubt bring new ideas to the group. It is rare to see a man of Ed’s size also having the athleticism to be able to charge down kicks and make line breaks throughout the game. We are excited to see what Ed can do in a Blackheath shirt this year.”. Ed is looking forward to joining Blackheath, and says “I remember the atmosphere when I played at Blackheath a few years ago being very memorable and I am really excited to not only experience that but to contribute in any way I can in making the coming season as successful as possible!”.
Coming from Cardiff RFC, Luke is keen to get started and says “The opportunity to join Blackheath really excites me! A club with a such a rich history and exciting future plans. Looking forward to getting stuck in!”. Tom thinks Luke will be a great addition and says “Luke had a great break through season at Cardiff RFC having made the BUCS team of the season the year before whilst at Cardiff University. Luke has represented Ireland in 7’s and having a player in the midfield with pace to burn and who is also able to bring others into the game, will be a great asset for Blackheath this season”.
On the new signings, Russell Ticehurst, Managing Director, says “It’s great to have three players of such high quality as Archie, Luke and Ed coming to Club. This is a testament to all the hard work and effort that goes on behind the scenes in the off season (still ongoing), in order to draw these lads to Blackheath. I know they are all looking forward to the challenge, and with Balders, Burcham and Everard gone these guys are key signings. Can’t wait to get them going at pre-season!”.
Welcome to the Club, Archie, Ed and Luke — we look forward to seeing you in September!
