It’s festival season!

As the season approaches a climactic finish, our Schools Programme also reaches its peak.

On 10 March, we hosted a training session and half-time exhibition match on the 1XV pitch during the game against Rotherham, featuring 30 boys from Woolwich Poly Boys (and two girls!).

Sitting in the stand was Dave Evans, a regular attendee and Head of St. Columba’s secondary school in Bexleyheath, who was sufficiently impressed by their enthusiasm the children brought to the event that he organised a Year 8 game between the schools the following week.

Earlier this week, we put on a two-day festival at Hervey Road for ten primary schools who brought thirty-six teams — that’s just under 450 children – to put on a fine display of the skills they had gained in coaching; and a terrific time was had by all!

Today, we’re repeating the WPB experience with three of our partner primary schools — Haimo, St. Mary’s Eltham and St. Thomas More, with games on the all-weather surface during the first half of the Clifton match, and an exhibition match on the 1XV pitch at half time. Please show your appreciation for the stars of the future.

And there’s more to come — on 20 May, we’re running an all-girls primary festival at Hervey Road and, on 23 June, a ‘taster day’ for local primary schools which haven’t yet engaged with our schools programme to see whether they might be tempted to sign up for FREE coaching next academic year.

If you’re the parent of a child who will be in Years 3-6 in September and you think their school would benefit from either of these events, contact us with your details and the name of your child’s school at community@blackheathrugby.co.uk and we can forward more information to you and your school.
