RIP. Len De Luca

21 Apr 2022

Blackheath has very much the family at its heart so it is sad to have to announce the death on 3rd April of Len De Luca. The sad news was spotted on a social media page posted by Marcus De Luca, Lens son.

Marcus De Luca writes :- Born in 1928 Leonard De Luca passed away peacefully on 3rd April 2022. Len was a successful hooker, having started his first class rugby career with Wasps before joining Blackheath in the early 1960s, eventually moving on to Saracens. In the latter part of his rugby career he also enjoyed stints with Rome and Ealing. Whilst with Blackheath he won representative honours with Middlesex and Eastern Counties and played for both Blackheath and Saracens in the final of the Middlesex 7s at Twickenham Stadium. Proud father to Marcus and Mitzi and proud grandfather to six grandchildren.

Rugby at Twickenham 14th January 1961 Harlequins V Blackheath  – The ball goes loose and LJR De-Luca (Blackheath) holds off AHM Hoare (Harlequins).

Marcus also played for the Blackheath Bandits in the 90’s but being modest kept quiet that his father was one of the Clubs 1st XV legends.

Our thoughts are with Len’s family at this sad time.
