Blackheath Rugby is thrilled to announce the signing of Sam Hill. Sam has played at Centre for Exeter Chiefs and, more recently, for Sale Sharks.
“It’s been quite a while since a new Club signing was introduced to the opposition crowd at an away game, before being announced to the Club faithful!” says Russell Ticehurst, Managing Director of Blackheath Rugby, “But that’s exactly what happened on Saturday when Club were victorious at Taunton in their first match back in National One. Sam Hill, who has played 150 Premiership games for Exeter Chiefs (and won a Premiership title and European Cup trophy during that time), and then went on to join Sale Sharks and play another 40 plus Premiership games, has now decided the time is right to transition from full time rugby into his future career. He has joined us at Blackheath Rugby to help us on and off the pitch, through National One and beyond.
Russ continues “Shanners and I are delighted to welcome Sam to the Club and look forward to working with him as part of the squad, and also help him to build his career outside of rugby. It’s probably easier for you to look him up online rather than me list all of his accomplishments, but it’s fair to say he comes highly recommended and with a huge reputation as being one of Premiership rugby’s consistent top performers. We are delighted to welcome him for 2023/24 season and beyond.”
James Shanahan, Head Coach, agrees with Russ and say “With Sam’s Premiership experience this a great signing for the Club. He’s known for being a great bloke on and off the field, and I can’t wait to see him play in Club colours. I’m also really pleased we can help him transition from full time rugby into his future career.”
Sam is also looking forward to joining a club with such a rich history “I’m excited to be playing for Blackheath: I wasn’t quite ready to finish with rugby altogether, but feel like it’s a great balance between playing a high standard in a good environment, while being able to transition into other things.”
