Kent County Awards Evening

On Thursday 21 May, representatives from Blackheath Rugby joined friends from other clubs across the county of Kent to celebrate the 2025-26 season.

Rory O’Sullivan, Club President, writes about the evening, below.

“I was delighted to attend the Kent Rugby Awards dinner, where there were over 200 attendees from rugby clubs from all over the county. The awards were presented by the Vice President of the RFU, Stephen Pearson.

“Blackheath were well represented by players from our Men’s section. Congratulations to the Brigands, our 3 XV, who had an outstanding season and received their award for winning the Counties 5 league and, with that promotion, next season into Counties 4. This was a huge achievement, winning all 20 games this season and extending their winning record, which reaches back to December 2023.

“There was more celebration with the Bandits receiving their Runners Up award in the Kent Metropolitan League A.

“To cap the celebrations, our Buccaneers received the Kent’s Veterans Shield, which they successively retained for another year.

“The icing on the cake for the evening was when I was invited to briefly thank all of the Kent clubs for their support, and particularly their noticeable presence during the National League One Promotional Playoff Final against Plymouth Albion. With this victory we advanced to the Championship Rugby Accession Final on 23 May 2026, putting Club just one step away from returning to domestic rugby’s second tier.

“As we all now know, Blackheath won promotion to Champ Rugby after defeating London Scottish 27-7 on the hottest day of the year. Congratulations once again to our 1st XV and our coaches for this exceptional achievement! This game will be remembered and talked about for years to come by our magnificent supporters from across all of our sections, who came from far and near to watch this thrilling final. We would also like to thank our friends from many of the Kent clubs, who turned out, once again, to support Blackheath on the day.”
