Nathaniel gets the Blues!

Congratulations to Nathaniel Ticehurst who was selected to play for the M.R. Steele-Bodgers XV against Cambridge University this week. The match marked the 77th anniversary of the first match played in 1948, when Micky Steele-Bodger was invited to organise an invitation team to play the University side ahead of the annual ‘Blues’ match against Oxford University. It’s a tradition that is carried on today by Micky’s son Guy, and the match this week was played in front of a crowd of over 3,000 spectators at the University ground, Grange Road, Cambridge.

Historically, Blackheath enjoyed an annual encounter with both Cambridge University and Oxford University, matches that were often graced with international players for the University teams. So it was a great honour for Nathaniel to be selected, and he acquitted himself well, scoring two tries in a sparkling encounter that saw Cambridge finish as winners with a score of 31-24.
