The Blackheath Rugby Wednesday Volunteers are always very busy, working hard at Well Hall with various projects around the site, and one of the recent projects has been the long overdue refurbishment of the gym.

Funded by the Supporters Club, a lot of work has been undertaken over the past few months, on various Wednesdays and summer Saturday volunteer days, including strengthening and painting the gym walls and bringing Club branding to the gym by painting the bottom half of the walls red and black, and adding logos and motivational words to the upper walls.

Tom Stradwick, Head Coach, says “The four sets of words we now have on the gym walls underpin a lot of how we train and the mindset we have as individuals and as a squad:

  • We always want to take on challenges and be the best that we can be
  • We look to win every rep — in the gym, on the pitch, in training — leading to continuous improvement as players
  • We always show resilience: No matter what is thrown at us, we keep on going
  • Mastery: We continue to learn. Every week, every time we play, every training session we attend, we try to develop ourselves and develop our skills

Thank you so much to the Supporters’ Club for funding this refurbishment, and for all the volunteers involved in the hard work.”

The Supporters’ Club is delighted to have been able to work on this project, and to make a difference to the training facilities for the squad. Special thanks go to Dave Tickner, Barry Tickner, Steve Wyman, Christine Oliver, Keith Oliver and Pamela Kilmister for their hard work and, of course, the volunteer army and members of the 1st and Club XVs who helped paint the walls!

If you would like to join the weekly volunteer crew, get in touch with the Supporters’ Club (supportersclub@blackheathrugby.co.uk) or just come along any Wednesday between 10:00-13:30 and get stuck in!
