Blackheath 17 Chinnor 19

A tight finish with Blackheath coming close to snatching a win that seemed highly unlikely after 45 minutes.

To that point Chinnor had been dominant, and had they kicked some of the numerous first half penalties the hosts conceded, would doubtless been further advanced than the 19-0 lead they held.

As it was, Max Clementson crashed over on 24 minutes following lineout ball, before further pounding of the Club goal-line resulted in three yellow cards and a penalty try, doubling the score.

Surprisingly, Blackheath found their best attack of the period with only twelve players on the field, but it amounted to little, and with a Nick Smith break putting Chinnor on the front foot after the interval, James Davies crossed out wide, giving the Oxfordshire side their substantial advantage.

However, perhaps bolstered by the replacements bench, Blackheath now began to turn the game around with their pack becoming dominant and forcing the infringements, and the second of two quick yellow cards resulted in a penalty try for collapsing the scrum.

The extra space saw Harry Holland cross on each flank for two scores within a few minutes of each other but, with the difficult conversions falling wide, not enough to change the result.
