Blackheath Rugby Women’s section is looking for a new Head Coach to lead the squad in to next season, when we celebrate the section’s 40th anniversary.
Position Overview
The Women’s Section Head Coach is responsible for the leadership, growth, and development of the Women’s Section. This role ensures that all coaching aspects of the Women’s Section operate effectively, creating a positive and inclusive environment in which players can engage in rugby with varying levels of experience.
The candidates should be able to plan and execute engaging training sessions that cater to varying skill levels, as well as position specific development through fostering a seamless player development pathway.
The Women’s Section Head Coach will collaborate closely with the sections Committee and team members, encouraging them to reach their full potential and promote a growth mindset. The ideal candidate will have at least two years’ experience in coaching, excellent communication skills, and a dedication to fostering both individual and team development and growth, whilst ensuring adherence to the governance of the Club and the RFU.
This is a part-time paid position.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Strategy
- Develop and implement the strategy for the WomenSection in alignment with the overall club strategy
- Foster an inclusive and supportive environment that promotes player development and retention
- Plan and execute engaging training sessions, every Tuesday and Thursday (7:30-9:00pm) that cater to a variety of skill levels and position specific training
2. Experience and Personal Capabilities Required
- Hold at least Level 2 coaching qualification in rugby
- Have previous experience coaching women (preferred but not necessary)
- A passion for rugby and a commitment to promoting Women’s rugby
- Strong leadership and organisational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Commitment to player welfare and safeguarding standards
3. Player Development and Section Growth
- Develop a robust Women’s section within the Club
- Develop initiatives that encourage players to focus on their individual development, support the delivery of 1-1 sessions, as appropriate
- Promote player welfare and ensure compliance with safeguarding policies
- Be willing to work with the Club to deliver a variety of skilled sessions using support from players/other sections
4. Time Commitment
- Plan and run pre-season starting in mid-July, held at Well Hall, Kidbrooke Lane, Eltham, SE9 6TE
- Plan and run in-season training, Tuesday & Thursday 7:30-9pm at Rectory Field, Charlton Road, SE7 7EY
- Attend all league fixtures – mostly Sunday, possibly Saturdays
5. Communication
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with players, coaches, and volunteers
- Publish the team sheet on a Friday ahead of Sunday fixtures

- External stakeholders (eg, opposing teams, tournament organisers)
