A couple of weeks ago, we were honoured to be invited by the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Councillor David Gardner, to a ‘Celebration of Blackheath Rugby’ evening at the Mayor’s Parlour, Woolwich Town Hall. The mayor was accompanied by Clive Efford, the MP for Eltham and Chislehurst.
“It was a real Club event with 18 members of Blackheath from all corners of our community attending.” said Rory O’Sullivan, President of Blackheath. “Both Councillor David Gardner and Clive Efford MP were impressed with not only the massive achievement of returning to England’s second tier of rugby for the first time in 27 years but also were awestruck by our schools outreach initiative called the Blackheath Rugby Community Programme which covers both Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils. Our Managing Director, Russell Ticehurst, presented the Mayor with a signed “Billy Harding” Blackheath rugby ball, which was proudly placed in his display cabinet.”
James Fleming, Chairman, agreed and said “It was wonderful to be invited by Councillor David Gardener, the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, to a reception at the Woolwich Town Hall with other colleagues and friends from Blackheath Rugby. Tremendous recognition from the Borough for an amazing season last year for the Club. Grateful thanks from the Club to Mayor and to Clive Efford, our local MP and loyal supporter who arranged the evening.”
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the Greenwich Town Hall and are grateful to the Mayor for inviting us.
