Sunday saw our u15 girls combine with our friends at Dartfordians to play Dover sharks in the Kent waterfall cup. Only the second outing for the “BlackDarts” since joining up a few weeks ago but already we are seeing the sides gel.
The first half was a tough start for the girls going 20-10 down. Tries from Blackheath captain Isabella Ballantyne and Dartfordians Jennifer Yates going someway to keep us in the match. Some excellent tackling from Oliver Thompson and Tara van de Berg also helping keep the score line within reach.
The second half saw renewed vigour in our side as we came roaring back against a spirited Dover Sharks helped along by a buoyant crowd. Again some fantastic efforts from the like of Meghan Thomas, one of our smallest players, showing great courage by throwing herself into tackle their biggest player and saving a certain try. She will remember that one at school today by the bruising around her eye. Fortunately she has another one to see out of!!!
Oliver Thompson of Blackheath made it 20-15 followed by two excellent individual offerings. Firstly our Dartfordians fullback Katie Collins, zipping her way through and then Blackheath winger Mia Harris running almost the length of pitch 1 to touch down under the posts. A conversion by Dartfordians Izzy Barnes took our tally to 27.
With two minutes to go Dover fought back to score in the corner but thankfully failed to convert. BlackDarts resumed with a kickoff, chasing hard to challenge and win the ball but instead of kicking out to put an end to the game they decided to plough on giving the coaching staff a mild heart attack!
A big thank you to Kelvin Bush for giving up his afternoon to ref the game and to the senior ladies and parents who came to lend their voice from the stands.
Final score.
