Girls- End of Season Blog

After such a fragmented period I wasn’t sure what the new season would look like for our girl’s squad post lockdowns. Having spent the past few years trying to build momentum it was quite plausible that it would have stopped altogether due to long spells of uncertainty. However I am pleased to report that we have pushed through and appear stronger than ever before.

This season was the start of our age grade program enabled by a steady core group for both u13s and u15s. The ultimate goal is to create a pathway to the Senior Women.

Our u13s joined forces with Colfieans and Dartford Valley to create a competitive team, taking part in the Kent Waterfall cup. They will be playing in the Kent 7’s in the coming weeks. Chris Somers our squad manager and Martin Smith lead the section.

The u15s joined up with Dartfordians to play in the Kent Waterfall cup recently, culminating with the girls winning on the first team pitch at Well Hall. I wish you could have seen their excited faces when they were told they would be playing there! The two sides have been alternating training and intend to continue next season to enter the Kent league. We intend to have a social with our new friends in the off season. Four of our girls have been presented for Kent County selection.

The senior women continue their dedicated support by sending coaches every week enabling the youngsters to learn from real players. This makes such a huge difference as different players bring new and important skill sets.

All in I’d say we have had a hugely progressive year. Our girls have cemented rugby friendships that one hopes will endure over the coming years making our unit that much stronger. Skills, attitude and belief have improved beyond measure. These girls are no wilting flowers. They’ll crush you given half the chance!
