Blackheath Rugby is thrilled to announce the signing of Josh Smart, a back-row forward who joins us from London Irish.
James Shanahan, Director of Rugby, says “Josh Smart is an abrasive backrower, who comes from the Championship side Ampthill, via London Irish. He was highly recommend by Ross McMillian (ex London Irish coach, now Exeter Chiefs) who I worked with at Cambridge Uni and Club. Josh has got the profile of the players we are looking for — he still wants to play a good standard of rugby, but also want to have a career. I’m looking forward to working him!”
Russell Ticehurst, Managing Director, goes on to say “We are delighted to welcome Josh Smart to Blackheath 2024/25 squad. He comes to us with excellent rugby credentials, as you’d expect for someone that has been involved at Premiership Academy rugby from an early age, and Premiership and Championship rugby in his senior years. We feel that Josh is a great fit for our set up this season and we look forward to seeing him run out at the Utilita in September. Josh is an outstanding young man and we look forward to his contributions to the Club on and off the pitch. Welcome Josh”
Speaking about his recent signing, Josh says “I’m really looking forward to joining Blackheath and getting started. To play for an historic club amongst a very exciting squad is a great opportunity for me. Hopefully we can build on what the boys achieved this year and have a great season!”
