Blackheath Rugby is excited to announce the signing of Shae Tucker, a New Zealand centre who has joined us from the Cornish Pirates.
Shae grew up in Napier, NZ, and played junior rugby for Taradale rugby club before heading to Napier Boys High, continuing to play throughout his secondary education at the highest level. At the University of Otago in Dunedin from 2014-16, and along with completing a Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Accounting with a minor in Classical History), Shae played 50 times for the University. From 2015-18, Shae also represented Otago 7s, NZ Universities, North Otago, North Harbour and Hawkes Bay.
Since arriving in the UK four years ago, Shae has lived in Cornwall, making over 50 appearances for the Cornish Pirates. But he has the south east in his blood, with his father being born in London and his grandparents hailing from Billericay, and he’s very much looking forward to joining Blackheath Rugby. Shae says “I am extremely excited to have signed for Blackheath, it’s a privilege to be a part of such an historic rugby club and I can’t wait to meet my new teammates, coaches and supporters.”
Speaking about Shae’s signing, James Shanahan, Head Coach at Blackheath Rugby, said “Shae Tucker – a Kiwi centre who comes via Cornish Pirates. A strong physical character, he will add experience and power to both sides of the ball, which will be needed in the step up into Nat 1.”
We’re looking forward to seeing Shae at Well Hall and can’t wait to see that power unleashed on the pitch.
Welcome to The Club, Shae!
