The Women headed out to Ibiza Beach Rugby tournament for this year’s tour, named “Tour Story”. Slowly people arrived throughout the course of Friday for a day to chill by the pool before the opening party. Saturday was tournament day, and with some sore heads, the women headed for the beach.
Our first game vs Saint Josep. The Club came away victorious (8-2) which gave them confidence for the games ahead. The second game vs Flying Wombats was more of a challenge losing 6-2. However the Flying Wombats did go on to be crowned tournament winners, so we can’t be too disheartened!
Our final group game was against a friendly face, Hampstead. In a tense game with a lot of defence shown by the women, Hampstead took the winning try in the final second (which we believe was held up…) to win 6-5. This meant the women finished 3rd in their pool and were through to the plate finals where they faced Hampstead’s other team. A much closer game with only Steph Hutchinson scoring, full time score 2-1.
With the tournament concluded it was time for Tour Story to come to life. Everyone had been pre-assigned a character, from the film Toy Story, with first time tourers grouped as the aliens.
Sunday was spent lounging around the pool recovering and soaking up the sunshine! One final boogie to close out tour before heading home the next day.
