On Friday 27th of December we have the annual Anthony Fitzgerald Cup game against our good friends Old Colfeians at The Utilita, under lights. The game is in aid of a wonderful charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). The charity is very close to the Club’s heart following the tragic loss of Anthony, at the age of 18, to a previously undiagnosed heart condition. Anthony’s family have thrown themselves into raising money to fund testing, in order to try and ensure that others don’t go through the same experience as they have. The Club is delighted to support them in this.
As a result of a huge amount of fundraising in Anthony’s name, we are delighted to be able to offer screening for anyone between the ages of 15 and 35 at The Utilita on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th November 2024. It’s a very simple process involving a couple of monitors being attached and should take no more than 15 minutes.
Signing up to be screened is also very simple. If you wish to book an appointment, please complete the following steps (please note, if the individual being screened is 16 or over, self-consent will be needed.)
The cost of the screening is £65 per person, which is covered by previous fundraising but, If you are able to make a contribution to CRY, this can be done via QR code on the day. All contributions will go to funding future testing. The most important thing however, is to get the test done.
If you were screened a couple of years ago, please get it done again, as things do change.
According to CRY, an average of 12 youngsters, and adults under the age of 35, lose their lives every week to previously undiagnosed cardiac conditions. This number is absolutely horrific but, with increased testing, it can be dramatically reduced.
If you are a parent or guardian of a youngster over 15, or if you are an adult under 35, please get yourself signed up as soon as possible, as places are limited.
