Men’s section – pre-season begins!

Pre-season begins for the Men’s Section on Wednesday 16th July. Foundations are to be laid for the season ahead where the section will field two league teams for the first time in a decade.

Speaking on the aims of pre-season training, assistant coach Conor Mitchell says “First and foremost we want to get the boys back to match fitness. That will mean a lot of running, up/downs and other fitness work. They’ll hate me now but will be grateful when the season starts. Hopefully the players get that buzz back and they’re match ready come September.”

The hard work is all in aid of setting the section up for a successful season. “We want them playing the same brand of expansive, running, aggressive rugby that brought us so much success last year. Getting that DNA flowing between the teams will be a top priority” says Mitchell.

It’s not all fitness work though, with a focus on skill and team shape. “I would love the boys to get back up to speed on our set pieces, strike plays and pattern asap so we can start perfecting”.

Pre-season runs until 22 August, when the section takes on a visiting team from Aspen, Colorado.

Pre season training is open to anyone who wants to play or get back into rugby. To those considering it, Mitchell says “Don’t hesitate! We’re a great bunch of lads playing some good rugby and building some amazing bonds. Come down, I guarantee you’ll love it”.

Training takes place at Well Hall every Wednesday from 7:15pm.
