Des Diamond, Past President, is saddened to announce the passing of former Club player Micky Oliver.
Micky was a wing forward who played at Blackheath FC from 1975-1979. The first record of him playing is in 1975-1976 when he had at least 5 games and is on the 1st XV photo for that season. This was followed by 26, 16, and 10+ appearances in the succeeding seasons along with several selections as a reserve. Mild in manner off the field, Mick was a quick and powerful, no-nonsense player on it.
Schooled at Dartford Grammar School, his early adult games were with Old Dartfordians, before moving on to Rectory Field. Here he often teamed up with Tom Jones and Dave Driscoll to make a formidable back row.
Micky later used his knowledge of the game and, with a thoughtful approach, became Coach to Gravesend RFC where he took the club through several successful seasons including a Kent Cup Plate victory.
Micky passed away peacefully on Sunday 20th July and the Club send its condolences to his wife and children.
