Blackheath Rugby is thrilled to announce that Mike Hoyt will be joining us in the Back Row for the new season.
James Shanahan, Director of Rugby, says “Mike joins from Nat One rivals Rams. Due to the travelling he was looking for a London club and, after a few chats, we managed to secure him and Rams kindly granted his release. Even though still very young he brings experience and depth to back row. During the last two seasons he’s been part of a very good Rams squad that pushed Cambridge and Chinnor in the race for top. He’s powerful and dynamic and brings something completely different to the squad which I don’t think we have had before. Another physical player, and with his Fijian background adds that X factor with ball in hand.”
Russell Ticehurst, Managing Director, is also looking forward to seeing Mike in Club colours, and says “Thrilled to see Mike join us from Rams: he brings Nat 1 experience and I know he’s looking forward to making an impact. Fast and physical, which we hope fits in with our game plan, along with some flair and creativity. We are hoping Mike can give us even more go forward this season and along with our other quality at back row, it will be exciting to see how it pans out in pre-season.”.
Speaking about his signing, Mike says “Moving clubs was a big decision for me, but Shanners and Russell made it much easier. I have to thank them for their patience and support in finalising my transfer to Blackheath. I’m really excited about the opportunity to play for such a great and historic club. I believe Blackheath is moving in the right direction to reach the top level once again, and being part of that journey is truly exciting. They play an expansive brand of rugby that suits my style, so I hope to fit right into the system and bring my own unique contribution to the squad.”
