Remembrance Sunday

09 Nov 2025

This morning saw a period of reflection at Blackheath Rugby when we gathered at the Well Hall Memorial Gates for a service to remember those who lost their lives in the wars.

The Reverend Ray Armstead led the service, which was attended by President Rory O’Sullivan, Chairman James Fleming, the Blackheath Rugby Juniors section, members of the Woolwich Polytechnic Lodge, and other members and supporters including historian and player Andy Lock, who wrote this piece last year about the Pillman family (many of whom were Club players) and how were affected by WWI and WWII.

We were also honoured to have Major Rob Fidler, Major Peter Tait and Major Luke Wadman join us for the game yesterday — they observed a minute’s silence with the teams before the match, and laid wreaths at the Memorial Gates.

We will remember.
