Blackheath Rugby is pleased to announce the signing of Shawn Ingle, openside flanker from Cambridge University RUFC, where he was on a rugby scholarship and was part of the 2023 Varsity-winning Cambridge team
Shawn was selected for the German national squad for their 2023 Rugby Europe Championship campaign, and has 6 years’ experience playing semi-professionally in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia. He also earned his international 7s cap with the Germany 7s team last year.
Shawn is looking forward to joining the Club and says “Can’t wait to get stuck in with Blackheath this season! It’s an honour to be joining a Club with so much history. I’m looking forward to contributing to Blackheath’s Renaissance and picking up some big scalps this year!” and James Shanahan, Blackheath Rugby’s Head Coach, is also thrilled to have him on board “Shawn Ingle comes from CURUFC via Sydney Shute Shield team West Harbour – a powerful South African/Aussie openside. Similar style to old Club player Harry Bate. Very powerful and dynamic in the tackle both sides of the ball. With the new tackle law he’ll be huge for club this season.”
Quick over the ball with a massive work ethic, strong tackle efficiency and agile ball carry, it will be great to see Shawn on the pitch this season.
