Steve Pilbeam

Steve Pilbeam has died peacefully at the age of 84.

Steve was educated at East Ham Grammar School (along with Fran Cotton and Tony Kennett), and played rugby for Old Easthamians later called East London. He also played at a higher level in the amateur game for Blackheath (where he played alongside Frank McCarthy) and Wasps.

Further afield, Steve toured with Whitney Buccaneers and Toronto Nomads and also represented Canada against a touring Welsh team in the late 1960s.

Later, Steve was a stalwart for the Blackheath Golden Oldies and East London Silver Streaks. In the summers he was instrumental in organising and playing rugby netball.

Our condolences go to his wife, Pam, and all the family.

Steve’s funeral is at St. Marylebone Crematorium at 10am on Friday 30th of May. No flowers are requested.
