Continuing our recent signings at Blackheath Rugby, we would like to welcome Finn Osborne, Tom Barton and Tom Hughes.
Finn, who’s previous club was Dorking, says he can’t wait to join, and says he’s “…looking forward to being part of a club with great history and huge ambition moving forward. Looks like a great squad to be part of and very excited about the season ahead!”. Tom Stradwick, Head Coach at Blackheath Rugby, is equally enthusiastic “Finn has been one of National 2’s stand out players over the past few seasons, winning The Rugby Paper’s Number 8 position two years in a row. Finn will bring physicality and athleticism and I look forward to seeing him perform in a Blackheath jersey this year.” and Russell Ticehurst, Managing Director, says “I’m very pleased indeed to see Finn join us at Blackheath. He’s quite rightly had to think long and hard about his move and we gave him as much time as we could to ensure that he was totally comfortable with his decision; so now that he’s here, I’m fully expecting to see him become a key figure in our now very impressive back row group which is becoming an area with real strength in depth with already established names now being joined this season by some exciting new ones, so it should be good to see Finn and everyone else in action this pre-season.”
Telling us about Tom Barton, a Centre who joins us from Ampthill, Strads says “Tom brings something exciting to the squad this year with his size, physicality and ball carrying ability in the centre. We look forward to seeing him operate and get us on the front foot throughout the season.” Tom is keen to get started at the Club, and says “I am looking forward to joining Blackheath because it will be a privilege to play for the oldest club in the world, and I am looking forward to being part of the new Blackheath squad for this coming season”. Russell echoes the positivity “It’s great to get Tom on board, he’s looked very physical in early pre-season and looks as though he might give us something different in our midfield this season. He comes to us via a spell at Ampthill where he’s had to compete at the level above, so we are hoping his move to us will be a straightforward one and that he can bring that experience into our game from the start. Really looking forward to watching Tom this season!”
Coming from the University of Bath RFC, Tom Hughes is looking forward to his next step and says “I’m excited to be joining such an historic and prestigious club, in what is an incredibly competitive league. Having completed my degree at Bath University while enjoying BUCS Super Rugby, I’m gassed to be making my next steps with Blackheath. It seems to be an evolving, ambitious squad, and I can’t wait to meet all the lads.” Strads says “Tom is a young exciting winger with a bright future. He won Coaches’ Player of the Season at Bath University in their BUCS team, and I look forward to seeing him make the step up to National League rugby this season.” Russell agrees “Tom has great pace and has impressed throughout his BUCS Super rugby time at Bath University. He finds himself competing for a shirt in our back three where we have tremendous strength in depth this year and I’m excited to see him in pre-season.”.
Welcome to the Club, Finn, Tom H and Tom B — we look forward to seeing you in September!
