Our opposition, Wimbledon, called off on Tuesday night but the Club XV were pleased to pick up an away fixture at Bournville, a model village on the southwest side of Birmingham, founded by the Quaker Cadbury family for employees at its Cadbury’s chocolate factory, and interestingly where the sale of alcohol was prohibited.
With an early start travelling with the first team to Leicester Lions, and then onwards to Bournville for a 2:15 kick off, the team scored their first of twelve tries after just three minutes through Alex Witchell quickly followed by Matt Armstrong’s first of a hat-trick in what soon became a one-sided contest. To be fair, Bournville stuck at it but, despite what was to be a consolation try towards the end of the first half, had no answer to the Club XV’s slick backs and quick off-loading forwards. Further tries came thick and fast from Archie English (2), Chris Ball, Todd Revell, James Rust, Namir Khalil, George Daly, and finally Matt Dalrymple, who also kicked 9 conversions.
The final score came in at 5-78 and with news of the first teams’ brilliant victory at Leicester Lions coming down the line, it promised to be a fun journey back down to London. And so, it was with Celebrations ( and a just a little alcohol ) all round!
The Club XV are at home to Richmond 2’s this coming Saturday with a 1:00pm kick off. We are expecting a much sterner test!
