Blackheath Rugby is delighted to announce that Tom Stradwick, Head Coach, has agreed to lead the Senior squad next season and beyond.
Speaking about the decision around asking Tom to continue his role at the club, Russell Ticehurst, Managing Director, says “Following a stuttering performance (but reasonably emphatic scoreline) against Leicester Lions, we find ourselves in 2nd place in National One, for the first time in many many seasons. That has been down in large parts to the fast work done by Tom Stradwick our Head Coach, following the departure of James Shanahan. Tom put his coaching team in place in what could be described as ‘at record speed’, whilst at the same time doing some very shrewd recruitment. The energy and drive from Tom and his team were next level and very effective, so in many ways it’s no surprise that we are where we are. So, as I reflected on this position pre Christmas, I approached the Board with my thoughts, to get their approval to ask Tom to stay with us for longer.”
As a result of that conversation, Russell goes on to say “I am extremely pleased to announce to everybody at Club that we have agreed that Tom will stay on for at least another three years, and will help guide the club on the pitch as we develop our off field improvements following the significant purchase of Well Hall.
“These are exciting times for Blackheath FC and I hope you will join me in congratulating Tom and wishing him well when you see him next. He likes a loud and supportive crowd so is expecting to see and hear us all vs Dings on 24 January.”
Tom is equally thrilled to be continuing his journey with Blackheath, which he spoke about in The Rugby Paper this weekend, and says “I’m delighted to be with the Club next season and beyond. We’ve got a great squad and coaching team, and I’m hoping to build on what we have done so far this season.”
We thank Tom for his dedication to Blackheath Rugby, and we look forward to seeing the output of his continued vision on and off the field.
