With pre-season training just around the corner, we are delighted to start introducing some new faces at Blackheath Rugby, starting with Alex Earnshaw, Ed Dunford and Sam Morely, who are all are looking forward to joining the Club.
Telling us about Alex, who joins us from Bury St Edmunds, Blackheath Rugby’s Head Coach Tom Stradwick says “We are very excited to have a player with Alex’s pace in the squad. Having scored 21 tries last season in National 2, we are hoping he continues in similar fashion now he has joined Blackheath!”. Alex can’t wait to join Blackheath, and says “I’m looking forward to joining such a prestigious club, and one that is so rich in history. Being at Blackheath will be a fantastic opportunity to meet some great people and to grow as a player in what is a very competitive league!”.
Ed, who’s previous club was Aberavon RFC, is also looking forward to getting stuck in at his new club “You cannot say no to joining the most historic rugby club in the world. Stradders and co have created a competitive squad with immense talent with an aim to push for silverware. I look forward to wearing the red and black jersey, and representing a club with rich history.”. Tom Stradwick is equally enthusiastic “Ed is an extremely skilful Fly Half and good game manager. His ability to create space for others around him will keep our attack following throughout the year. Having played last season in the Welsh Premiership, he brings good experience to the club and we are very excited to have him on board.”
Coming from Esher Rugby, Sam is keen to get started and says “I’m delighted to be joining Blackheath. It’s a club with a fantastic history and a loyal following, and I’m proud to now be a part of it. Their vision and ambition for the coming seasons is exciting, and I hope I can play my part in making it happen.”. Tom thinks Sam will be a great addition and says “Sam has been one of the stand out 10’s in National 1 and 2 over the past few seasons and has previously made the rugby paper National 1 team of the season. Sam is a real threat at the line and has the ability to unlock even the best defences in the league.”.
On the new signings, Russell Ticehurst, Managing Director, says “Great to have Alex, Ed and Sam joining us this season (hopefully for seasons to come). With Ed and Sam we have two outstanding 10’s and they will feed off of each other no doubt and keep each other at their best. With Alex we have some genuine pace out wide and a proven try scorer, which is very exciting. I’m looking forward to getting them into the fold and seeing them run out for Club this season.”.
Welcome to the Club, Alex, Ed and Sam — we look forward to seeing you in September!
